Activities at SHP

Here at Seton Hall Prep, we acknowledge a responsibility to foster our students’ success both in and out of the classroom. Therefore, in keeping with our philosophy of holistic education, we offer a wide and varied co-curricular activities program to give each student the opportunity for personal expression and social involvement in the school. It is our goal for every student to become involved in some aspect of our activities program. The activities program is designed around the concept that each Prep student should be able to pursue his interests and passions. In this spirit, students themselves have organized and founded a variety of clubs and organizations. Some meet using a highly structured format, while others are purely recreational. Therefore, our activities program is very much alive, growing and developing in tandem with the current student body; the clubs and organizations that are active on any given year represent the interests and passions of that particular generation of The Prep.

Seton Hall Prep offers about sixty to seventy active clubs and programs each year. Cultural clubs, such as the Spanish, Chinese, and World Cultures Clubs to name a few, celebrate our student’s diverse heritages and expose our student body to new and exciting cultural traditions. The Pirate newspaper, the Tower yearbook, and the Spectrum literary magazine are school publications staffed entirely by students and overseen by a faculty moderator. The Quiz Bowl, Science Olympiad, and Forensics teams, among others, represent the Prep in the competitive academic arena. The Seton Hall Performing Arts program produces a fall drama and a spring musical, and it supports a band averaging one hundred and seventy five students each year. The program also supports numerous choral and instrumental ensembles. Finally, the Prep offers a variety of student-founded clubs such as the Car Club, Ski Club, Guitar Club, and Service Club. While most organizations and activities are open to all students, membership in some is limited to those who meet certain criteria specific to that organization. Groups like the Ambassadors and the National Honor Society may require minimum grade point averages, teacher nominations, interviews, and ultimately, invitations to join. Membership in others, like Student Government, is arrived at by election.

The Activities Program at Seton Hall Prep is dedicated to enhancing the students’ high school experience by providing the opportunity for the students to express themselves, meet great friends, and chase their passions.
