The Msgr. Michael E. Kelly '57 Scholarship Fund
Let's build The Prep's Endowment together...
Established in 2018, by Seton Hall Prep alumnus, Frank “Bud” Zimmermann ’75 as a tribute to the lifetime of service by School President, and former Headmaster, Msgr. Michael Kelly.
At the time, Bud noted: “Fr. Mike has been an amazing force at Seton Hall Prep for the past four decades. He truly has been the engine that has driven The Prep for all these years. To many alumni and parents, he embodies so many wonderful aspects of SHP and it is largely because of him that The Prep has become one of the top Catholic Schools around. I met Father Mike when he was my guidance counselor in the early 70’s. He is as charismatic now as he was back then. He had an incredible knack for remembering students’ names and making us feel comfortable. You could just tell that there was something special about him. At a time when kids needed someone to look up to, he was there as our role model. I have always liked the idea of blending education and faith, and I have seen first-hand how much my own boys – Billy, Shawn and Brian – grew into great young men during their four years at The Prep. It makes me so proud to support The Prep.”
It was in this spirit that Bud and his wife Susan established The Monsignor Michael E. Kelly ’57 Scholarship Fund in 2018 to set the course for the decades to come and ensure that young men from all walks of life can continue to experience The Prep as Bud and his sons Billy ‘11, Shawn ’16 and Brian ’19 once did. It is their hope that this endowed fund will be built up so that someday every qualified young man who wishes to attend The Prep, can do so regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. This endowed scholarship will serve the next generation of Prep students and ensure that so many hard-working families can continue to have their sons experience The Prep.
The success of this ambitious initiative for the future of the school rests in the hands of our most generous alumni and parents who we look to for support of this signature fund. It is in this spirit that The Prep can continue the tradition begun by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton herself over 200 years ago. Mother Seton devoted her life’s work to educating young people in the Catholic Tradition through the goodness and philanthropy of so many generous folks in the community.
The Monsignor Michael E. Kelly ’57 Scholarship Fund can similarly be transformational for Seton Hall Prep and in the lives of so many young men. We have set a goal of $5 million to ensure that we can assist every student whose family demonstrates substantial financial need.
