Lucas Miranda ‘2025 Attends Advanced Space Academy

Lucas Miranda ‘2025 attended the Advanced Space Academy at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Alabama this past summer. Lucas represented Seton Hall Prep and his hometown of Clifton this summer for a unique and coveted experience.

Space Academy provides students the opportunity to explore college and career preparation through an immersive experience in science, engineering, technology and math. Lucas enjoyed a week of high-level educational and team-building activities, which included constructing a rocket, flying jet aircraft simulators, completing an extended-duration Mars mission simulation, and a moonwalk using the 1/6th gravity chair.

Lucas enjoyed traveling away from home to represent The Prep in a real-life experience similar to going off to college. Lucas’ love of math and science made him an excellent candidate to attend Space Camp. “He has incredible analytical skills,” adds teacher Mrs. Keri Cerami.

Lucas attended Space Camp on scholarship after being encouraged by his mother, Paula Montoya to apply. “My mom encourages me to apply to all sorts of scholarships. If it weren't for the help of all these scholarships, I wouldn’t be able to afford this amazing school. She is always looking to help me thrive and grow in ways I might not be able to afford. It's also how I became a Seton Scholar here at Seton Hall Prep.”

Seton Scholars program has been the academic home for incoming Prep students with the most potential for academic excellence and distinction, preparing them for admission to the most competitive colleges and universities in the nation. As a Seton Scholar Lucas must maintain a 3.75 GPA or higher and take a minimum of 10 AP courses before graduation. When Lucas isn't studying he likes to "relax and have fun" at Quiz Bowl. Quiz Bowl is one of the many activities currently offered at The Prep. "When I was a freshman I joined Quiz Bowl and has been a great sense of community. I really enjoyed it when we were able to represent Seton Hall Prep in a tournament last year.”

So what’s next for this Seton Scholar? “Even though I love math and science, it has always been my passion to help others. I think I want to major in Law & Political Science because I want to be able to help people. My mom immigrated from Colombia and I know it was not an easy experience for her coming to this country mostly speaking Spanish. I want to explore ways to help break down some of the barriers, help immigrants navigate ways to create the best possible life for themselves in this country,” says Lucas.

The Office of Advancement is here to further The Prep’s tradition of excellence and commitment to nurturing hearts, inspiring minds, and igniting spirits. Donations to The Prep support the already fine academic, athletic, artistic, and spiritual facilities and programs that are the foundation upon which future success of our students is formed.
