The Writings of Mark Twain Recognized for College Credit

Seton Hall Prep's The Writings of Mark Twain Honors course has been recognized as rigorous enough to join Seton Hall University's Project Acceleration program which grants college credit for work students complete at The Prep.
According to SHU’s website, “Since 1978, Project Acceleration, a concurrent enrollment program within the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton Hall University, has allowed high school students in New Jersey to get a head start on their university careers” by earning three college credits in English toward the undergraduate degree that are accepted at over 200 colleges and universities throughout the United States.
Not only will a Prep student’s transcript to any university show that he is taking a college-rigorous course, but students could save thousands in college tuition, in addition to saving time by completing required coursework ahead of stepping onto a college campus as a freshman.
“Mr. Pascal’s passion for his unique class, The Writings of Mark Twain, is a true testament to the dedication he exhibits in the classroom every day," stated Headmaster Michael G. Gallo '79. "Students who take this class have the opportunity to experience a college-level class with a teacher who is a true master of the subject.”
According to Mr. Pascal, “This is a unique chance to be ahead of other high school students in showing that our students can not only handle college work, but also standing out from others after acceptance to colleges.  Simulating the dialogues between college professors and their students, Mark Twain Scholars from various universities around the country discuss Twain’s thoughts, his writings, and his world with our Prep students.  Equally important, the tremendous savings in tuition is certainly a relief for any family.”
SHP junior, Kevin Agnew, said, "By taking Project Acceleration in high school, it’s not only going to get me ready to take a college-level course, but also it is extremely beneficial to have those three credits to take into college after I graduate.  Also, the Mark Twain course has been nothing short of amazing and I’ve found it to be very enjoyable learning about Twain’s life."
Classmate, senior Matthew Warren added, "The Mark Twain Course and Project Acceleration has been exceptionally useful in preparing me for college since it helps me become accustomed to doing the same quality of work as a college course, while also revolving around the fascinating life of one of the world’s greatest authors.  The course material is revolved around taking a step back to compare our lives and experiences to the events of Mark Twain’s life while also coming to a greater understanding of the younger America where Twain grew up."
