Sophomores take part in a Weekend of Service in Camden

Seton Hall Prep Sophomores and faculty engaged in hands-on service, prayer, and reflection that brought Catholic Social Teaching to life through meaningful experiences across the Camden community.
Over the weekend of Jan. 8th - Sun. Jan. 11th, 15 Prep Sophomores along with Dr. Clare Ettensohn, Theology Instructor and Director of Service Immersion, Dan Ferrari '00, Director of Campus Ministry, and James Falconer, new Theology Instructor, traveled to Camden, NJ for the Sophomore Service Retreat.

The group stayed at the St. Oscar Romero Center for this service-based retreat called the “Urban Challenge,” an urban, service-learning, immersion experience rooted in the Catholic Faith Tradition.

Throughout the weekend, the group participated in a variety of service experiences in the surrounding area from soup kitchens and food pantries to nursing homes, day programs for the elderly, elementary schools and youth events.

Meaningful prayer, reflections, discussions, etc. allowed the group to fully process and appreciate these experiences in light of Catholic Social Teaching. Seton Hall Prep is grateful to the incredible staff at the Romero Center and all the organizations where we served for hosting us and enabling this impactful, eye-opening, enriching experience for our students and faculty!
