Seton Hall Prep is New Jersey’s oldest Catholic college preparatory school. The Prep's tradition is matched by its commitment to the education of young men by teaching them to think critically, communicate effectively and become contributing members of society.
At Seton Hall Prep, students participate in many of the amazing offerings available to them outside of the classroom. This includes 15 sports, more than 70 activities and clubs, a variety of intramurals and a seemingly endless number of service projects.
“To equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ.”
Mothers Auxiliary honors Dawn Fitschen P'20 at Welcome Mass
The Mothers Auxiliary honored Dawn Fitschen P'20, mother of Garrett ’20, with the Mother Seton Award at its annual Welcome Mass & Luncheon on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026.
Dawn has been a devoted supporter of the Pirates on a Journey program at Seton Hall Prep, which helps students navigate the grief that comes with the loss of a loved one. She became involved with the program after her daughter, Mackenzie, passed away from cancer as a teenager.
The Mother Seton Award holds a special place within the Mothers Auxiliary. Named for Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American Saint and namesake of Seton Hall Prep, the award was established by the Mothers Auxiliary Executive Board in 1990. During her lifetime and after, Elizabeth Ann Seton was known for her devotion, compassion, and desire to help others.
This award is presented annually to a past or present member of the Mothers' Auxiliary who best exemplifies the Christian tradition as demonstrated by the life of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, in every facet of her relationship with others. This year, that honor is awarded to Dawn Fitschen, who is the proud mother of Seton Hall Prep graduate, Garrett ‘20.
Through her compassion and commitment to helping others, Dawn embodies the spirit of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, who endured profound loss throughout her life yet persevered in her mission to serve others. Her motto, Hazard Zet Forward, reflects that spirit of moving forward despite hardship and using one’s experiences to help others through their own pain.
