Welcome from the president
Welcome to Seton Hall Preparatory School! Proud of our school’s tradition and honored to share it with you, we are pleased that you have chosen to visit Seton Hall Prep’s website.
We have a rich history, beginning in 1856, and we are the oldest Catholic college preparatory school in New Jersey.
Seton Hall educates young men in grades nine through twelve. The Prep is administered by priests of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark and our primary goal is the development of the whole man in the values of the Catholic faith; spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically.
The Seton Hall Prep Community comprises a faculty of 95 men and women and a student body of approximately 975 young men from 130 localities. The Prep welcomes young men of every race, color, religious belief, national and ethnic origin who desire to be contributing members of the school family and to grow along with it. Binding this community together is the extraordinary support we enjoy from our parents, trustees, alumni and friends.
The strength of the Seton Hall Prep Community lies in the people that make it up. Our students are energetic, enthusiastic, talented, creative and concerned. Our teachers are dedicated professionals who enjoy their vocation and care for their students. This relationship between our teachers and students fosters high standards and drives each student to account for his actions. In this way, students are readied for the realities of life and the challenges that they will most certainly have to face in the future.
We propose, as an ideal, men who can realize our motto, “Hazard Zet Forward,” by boldly witnessing their faith, their hope and their love.
We invite you to visit us—on the web or in person—and to enjoy the Prep experience.
Msgr. Michael E. Kelly ’57
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically... Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education." — Martin Luther King Jr.
Welcome from the headmaster
For 160 years there has been a lively and dedicated educational mission happening at Seton Hall Prep. The oldest Catholic prep school in New Jersey has seen generations of students and their sons and grandsons come to our school. This is a family. It is a place of faith, learning, service, and social responsibility. Today’s students come from 130 different towns and reflect a diverse and energetic student body.
Seton Hall prepares young men for life. Our mission is about the intellect, the heart, respect for one’s life and those of others, and concern for society. Our students learn from a committed faculty. They are prepared for college and challenged to develop their gifts and talents. At Seton Hall Prep we value the bonds of friendship and brotherhood.
Our website can tell you about us: academics, activities, sports, music, and culture. The website is full of information and significant data. Hopefully it conveys the spirit and personal investment of The Prep family: how teachers go the extra mile; how student assist one another; how parents join together to support our mission; how alumni maintain the long-standing affection for and appreciation of what Seton Hall Prep was for them.
Seton Hall Prep is proud of its Catholic heritage and eager to make it the heart of our mission. Each student is challenged to do his best. Personal responsibility is the hallmark of growth. In all areas of school life this is of paramount importance.
The tradition that is Seton Hall Prep always seeks the future. The Prep’s mission is to build for tomorrow, to develop young men ready to take their place in the world. The professional competence of our teachers and their readiness to engage students strengthen them on this journey. Our faculty is known for their availability to students for help, guidance and support.
Thank you for visiting us on our website. We invite you to visit us to experience firsthand the powerful and unique place that is Seton Hall Prep.
(Rev. Msgr.) Robert E. Harahan, S.T.D.
