Anonymous Alumnus Pledges the Msgr. Michael E. Kelly '57 $1,500,000
Tuesday, December 01, 2015

The Msgr. Michael E. Kelly ’57 $1,500,000 Challenge, pledged by an anonymous alumnus, is structured to raise the final $5,000,000 required to reach the $20,000,000 “Generations” Campaign goal. Leadership gifts of $10,000 or more to the capital campaign, which addresses Seton Hall Prep’s immediate needs, qualify for the 1:3 match. Every $10,000 given toward capital initiatives triggers $3,000 of the $1,500,000 match, multiplying the impact of each gift.

The donor, a long-term benefactor of The Prep who wishes to remain anonymous, approached the school with the gift. “When the individual contacted us earlier this year, I was thrilled!" recalls President Msgr. Michael E. Kelly. Having worked with the donor on various projects at the school, Msgr. Kelly went on, “it's always been a priority for this alumnus to encourage others to give through his own generosity.” Structuring the gift as a challenge is an effective way to garner additional support. "This gift will inspire the entire Prep community to join together in support of the future of this great school," remarked Msgr. Kelly.

“Generations” funds three major capital projects at Seton Hall Prep. Included is the recently completed cutting-edge 10,000 sq. ft. Science Wing, which students and faculty began to use in September 2013. Developments are also underway at the school's 44-acre Kelly Athletic Complex on Prospect Avenue. This impressive stretch of land will house a new multiuse stadium field, five tennis courts, two baseball fields, a locker room, and additional parking. Growth of the endowment, which funds student aid and scholarships, faculty development, and campus renewal, is also integral to “Generations.” Together, these critical developments will affect the lives of Prep students for years to come.

Opening of the new wing invigorates the science department
Tuesday, November 26, 2013

“We now have a cutting-edge facility to complement our talented teachers,” remarked Dave Snyder ’89, of the newly completed Science Wing at Seton Hall Prep. Mr. Snyder, The Prep’s Science Department Chair, is proud of his department’s move into the 21st century with its state-of-the-art technology and laboratory set up.

The new facility provides the opportunity to run more intense labs that require complex analysis and the use of iPads to read outcomes digitally. The new setup – with separate lecture and lab spaces in each classroom – also provides scheduling flexibility. For example, a lecture class may be in session while lab equipment is already set up for a class during the following period.

Science teacher Ed Fabrizio noted how the opening of the new facility has affected the entire department, remarking, "Now when students and families walk into this building, they know we're serious about science." Consequently, the entire Prep community will benefit from this important advancement at the school. A special thanks to The Prep’s generous benefactors for making this possible.
