Peer Leaders At Work Early, Prepping for Their Important Role

At the end of July the newest group of Peer Leaders gathered on three days to put together their program for shepherding the members of the incoming Class of 2024 through their first year at The Prep. On Friday and Saturday, with Advisers Theresa Neglia, Pete Ford and Dr. Jim Incardona offering guidance, and constant reminders about social distancing and masking, the 36 seniors discussed their upcoming roles and took part in a variety of activities that would help them understand their own leadership skills and which will help them integrate the freshmen into the school community...
Among the activities were some that tested their communication skills and others that tested their daring. On Friday afternoon the seniors visited the TreeTop Adventure Course at Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange for some fun and some self-examination on the obstacle and zip line course there.
Sunday's activities centered on the peer leaders putting their heads together for a couple of hours sequestered in the Library, with the adults banished from the room, to determne the 18 best two-man teams that would lead the frosh mentoring groups through the next year. With the resulting teams confirmed by the advisers, the entire group re-gathered in the Dining Hall, where Chaplain Fr. James White celebrated Mass for their success and commissioned each senior with a special blessing.
Over the month of August each team will lay out plans for the opening days of school and will contact their freshman groups to introduce themselves and welcome them to SHP. [view the photo album]
