Class of 2020 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Seton Hall Prep is proud to announce Matthew Guarnuccio and Connor Cook as Valedictorian and Salutatorian, respectively, for the Class of 2020.

"The Seton Hall Prep community has been enriched by the presence of these two fine Setonians, who have lived their well-rounded Prep experiences to the fullest, and who have exemplified the spirit of The Prep as men of service at school and in their local communities," stated President Msgr. Michael E. Kelly '57 and Headmaster, Mr. Michael G. Gallo '79. Dr. James Incardona, Assistant Headmaster for Academics, and Mrs. Lisa Sgaramella, Assistant Headmaster for Faculty added, "Matthew and Connor are models of character and academic achievement. The administration and faculty are proud of them, and are pleased to honor them for their immense accomplishments and dedication to scholarship."

Matthew, a National Merit, AP, and Seton Scholar, will be attending the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame where he plans on studying accounting and Global Affairs. The Westfield resident was the winner of the Vincent D. Purpura Scholarship Award as a junior (for selfless commitment and service to The Prep and his community), and was also the lead in the school musical as a junior and senior, an SHP Ambassador, a varsity athlete on both the cross country and tennis teams, band and music ministry member, and student coordinator for the annual Hunger Summit. He was also heavily involved in both his local parish and SHP campus ministry, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, religious education teacher, and Catholic Heart Workcamp participant.

Connor, a SHP Ambassador and National Honors Society member, will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this fall. In addition to the aforementioned involvement at school, Connor was also a football and lacrosse player, Knight of Setonia, volunteer for sandwich-making for St. John’s Soup Kitchen, and a member of the Wounded Warrior Project Club. In his local community, Connor assisted autistic children at Saturday’s in Motion, a program run out of the Somerset Hills YMCA, and has spearheaded bake sales and fundraisers through his local youth group at St Patrick's Parish in Chatham, his hometown.

On Friday, May 29th, at the Celebration of Excellence, The Prep will continue to recognize the great accomplishments of the 2020 senior class and will announce awards recognizing exceptional character and achievement in areas of activities, athletics, arts, academics, service and more.
