Yale Midfielder Brian Tevlin (SHP '17) Ready for Biggest Save Yet
Thursday, March 21, 2019

MARCH 21, 2019

Seton Hall Prep Alumni Brian Tevlin is doing big things at Yale, and not only on the lacrosse field.

The 2017 SHP graduate was a key contributor for Yale in his freshman season, even scoring a goal against Duke in the national championship. Heading into his sophomore season, Tevlin will be making even greater contributions off the field.

Tevlin participated in a surgical process on Wednesday at a hospital near home in Livingston in hopes of helping someone in a dire situation by donating bone marrow.

Tevlin first signed up for the national bone marrow donor registry as a high school junior. A few years later, Tevlin is slated to miss up to four weeks, maybe more, of the lacrosse season as he recovers from surgery.

“I put myself in the other person’s shoes,” Tevlin said. “They’d told me it was a male in his 50s, and I thought God forbid if that was my father, and there was a college kid who only had to give up a couple of games for him to live. It seemed like a no-brainer when I said it to myself like that.”

The Prep community is praying for a full recovery for Tevlin as we continue to support his athletic and academic career at Yale.

Kelly served a five-year term on the Seton Hall University Board of Regents from 1986-91, during the renaissance of the men's basketball program, and also served as the board's chairman. In addition, he was President of the Seton Hall University Alumni Association and President of the Stillman School of Business Alumni Association. In 1986, he received the Many Are One Honoree-Service Award, and in 1991, he was the recipient of the University's Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award. Among his many positions in business, he was previously employed as a Senior Vice President for Finance at Pfizer, Inc.

"If we are having a great period, a great renaissance, it's both academics and athletics. They go together; they are critical to the success of our university. We were blessed to have that happen. That was a period of time when SAT scores were up, academics were up, we built new facilities and had great sports programs. That's the type of teamwork that we brought back then and it's what we have today."

Michael Frungillo '96 establishes endowed scholarship for Italian Studies.
Monday, May 08, 2017

Michael Frungillo '96 returned to The Prep on May 5, 2017 to announce the establishment of The Michael A. Frungillo Foundation Scholarship at Seton Hall Prep. This endowed scholarship will be awarded annually to a student excelling in Italian Studies beginning in 2018-2019. It is largely due to the generosity of alumni like Michael that The Prep is able to thrive and that so many young men can continue to experience Seton Hall Prep like those who came before them. Here is a small part of the letter Michael wrote to Monsignors Kelly & Harahan earlier this month informing them of his decision to make this gift: "I attribute much of my success to the academic preparation I received and the personal confidence I developed at SHP. I am convinced that a large part of my success is due to Seton Hall Prep and my relationships with the teachers and administrators. These memories have inspired me…and now with good intention, I would like to give back to the school." Michael is pictured here with one of his Prep mentors, Mr. Anthony Lupica, teacher of Italian (photos by Rich Morris).

Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Vitillo '64 appointed Secretary General of the International Catholic Migration Comission
Tuesday, July 05, 2016

Geneva, 12 May 2016 - The International Catholic Migration Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Monsignor Robert J. Vitillo as its new Secretary General, effective 1 June 2016. Msgr. Vitillo takes over from Johan Ketelers as he nears completion of his third term, having led the organization since 2004.

The appointment was made following an ordinary process, during which a selection Committee was established to identify and propose a suitable replacement. In accordance with the ICMC Statutes, the Committee's proposal was subsequently submitted to the Vatican’s Secretary of State, who confirmed the candidate. The ICMC Governing Committee later elected Msgr. Robert J. Vitillo as the new Secretary General of ICMC.

Monsignor Robert J. VitilloMonsignor Robert J. Vitillo was appointed Secretary General of ICMC, effective 1 June 2016. Photo: Paul Jeffrey While serving as the Director of Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Paterson, New Jersey, USA, during the 1980’s, Msgr. Vitillo coordinated the resettlement of Southeast Asian, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Haitian and Cuban refugees to the United States. He also assisted ICMC to design its cultural orientation programs for Southeast Asian refugees in Bataan, Philippines. He currently serves at Caritas Internationalis both as its Head of Delegation to the United Nations in Geneva and as Special Advisor on Health and HIV/AIDS. He is a trained social worker and psychotherapist. His expertise includes child protection and social services, adoption, migration and refugee services, human rights, integral human development, management, HIV/AIDS and health. “Having collaborated with Johan Ketelers and the ICMC staff on a range of migration and refugee issues for many years, I feel honored to have the opportunity to now lead ICMC, especially in a world wrestling with migration challenges. I look forward to working directly with the ICMC staff in Geneva, Brussels, Washington and in the field – as well as with the ICMC members worldwide - to protect and serve the many people in need of protection and assistance”, Msgr. Vitillo said.

Peter Sutherland, President of ICMC and UN Special Representative for International Migration, declared: “As President of ICMC, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Johan Ketelers for the remarkable work he has done for ICMC over the years. He will go down in the history of the institution. As to his successor, his wealth of experience and dedication to the fundamental values of ICMC speak for themselves. I am delighted to have him as the new executive head of this remarkable institution.”

Johan Ketelers will continue to remain active in the migration field promoting the recognition and respect of migrants’ rights. Under his leadership, ICMC was able to move from a small structure to an organization with staff and programs in over 50 countries and an annual budget of almost 35 million US dollars. Thanks to this growth, which has placed the organization in a stable financial situation, the Commission is today in a position to reach out to a larger number of people in need of protection and significantly influence public migration debates in international fora.

Taking stock of the past years, Johan Ketelers reflected: “I leave the organization with the deep satisfaction that much has been achieved and progress will continue to be made. The road ahead is promising and of continued importance for the many we serve.”

The ICMC Governing Committee, the ICMC members worldwide and all staff wish Msgr. Vitillo a smooth transition into his new position and Mr. Ketelers the very best in his future endeavors.

Alumni can now send updates and news to the Office of Alumni Relations by logging in and updating their profile or alumni class note.
  • Current family member? Alumnus? Why you should be logging in...
    Why log in?

For Parents - be in touch with your son’s classes, teams and clubs. You also need to be in touch for Emergency and Crisis alerts. Don’t be out of communication with the school in the event of another emergency similar to the fire crisis we had last April. Instructions for entering emergency info were contained in the October e-delivery of the mail (still available in the Monthly Mail channel on this page). Stay in contact with the Mothers Auxiliary and the Fathers Club.

You need to use YOUR OWN password- not your spouse's or your son's— otherwise you'll see the information tailored for someone else, and not be able to edit your own profile.

For Students - stay in touch with your classes, teams and clubs. Ensure your emergency contact info is there so you get a Snow Emergency phone call.

For Alumni - re-connect with classmates. Organize reunions and get-togethers. Leave classnotes for friends and for the Tower Revisited. Help support the work of Seton Hall Prep.

To do all this effectively, students, parents and alumni should sign-in with the user names and passwords and then update their profiles so that addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and emergency contact numbers are up to date.
