On April 26 Seton Hall Prep celebrated its Sesquicentennial with an elegant and festive Gala Dinner at the
beautuful Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange. More than 350 guests, including alumni, parents, former and present faculty, and friends of the school gathered to toast The Prep's history and legacy of educational
excellence. The evening's second celebratory note was the acknowledgement of the 25th
anniversary of Msgr. Michael E. Kelly's appointment as Headmaster. Director of Alumni Services and Gala Chairman Jason Makarow '99 welcomed the guests who, following dinner, were addressed by
Board of Trustees Member M. Richard Merklinger '65 and Board of Trustees Chairman John Murray '59. The concluding remarks by Msgr. Kelly recounted his days as a student in the '50s and later as teacher and counselor,
prior to his taking the helm of the school in 1980 as the first alumnus Headmaster. He closed with thanks to the thousands of students, alumni, parents and friends of the school that have helped establish the high
regard in which Seton Hall Prep is held. Founded in 1856 with a mere five students in Madison, Seton Hall Prep is New Jersey's oldest catholic college preparatory high school. For 125 years
the school was part of the Seton Hall University campus in South Orange, before moving to its current location on Northfield Avenue in West Orange in 1985. |
