O SING HER PRAISE- OFF THE PRESSES
|
02.25.07- The conclusion of a two-year project to mark the Sesquicentennial of Seton
Hall Prep with the production of a 150th anniversary history book was reached in mid-January with the publication of O Sing Her Praise
by the Seton Hall Prep Communications Office. Authored by 1973 alumnus and former Prep English teacher Ken Comer, and illustrated and annotated by Director of Communications Richard Morris H'95, the 184-page hard cover, full-color volume is the result of arduous research and scores of interviews with alumni, former faculty and friends of SHP. It contains hundreds of photos and reproductions of archival material, including scrapbooks belonging to former Seton Hall College presidents and Depression Era students, as well as memorabilia and news clippings dating back to the 19th century.
• [l] Headmaster Msgr. Michael Kelly '57 and author Ken Comer '73 celebrate the completion of the two-year
anniversary publishing project.
The limited edition volume was printed by Hatteras Press of Tinton Falls, the publishers of
the school's community magazine, Tower Revisited. Its title, O Sing Her Praise, is a line from The Prep's alma mater and along with the song's other lines serve as chapter headings throughout the nine chapters.
The lengthy and costly project is viewed by Board of Trustees President John Murray '59 as an investment in providing a "historical legacy" for The Prep's future generations. The book was sold by online and mail order
reservation during the nine months previous to its printing. Those interested in purchasing one of the few extra or unclaimed copies of the book at $85 should contact Director of Institutional Advancement Jason Makarow
by downloading a form which will place the respondent on a waiting list. |

ELEBRATING 150 YEARS
a Mass celebrating the Feast Day of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton |
|
| |
|
A very special celebration took place in Giblin Auditorium to spiritually and prayerfully
mark the Prep's Sesquicentennial. Uniting the current 960 students, members of the Board of Trustees, former faculty and alumni took part in the celebration of the Mass which focused the attention of all upon the
remarkable transformation over a century and a half of Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley's brain child founded in 1856,
into the highly regarded college preparatory school it is today. The school which had begun with a mere five students now serves students
and their families from over 130 towns in 10 counties.
