The Seton Hall Prep Library Media Center offers varied services and materials to our students and staff. The collection
features curriculum-related books, videos, magazines and computer services to address academic information needs. The Seton Hall Prep Library Media Center provides students with access to
the Internet for curriculum related research in compliance with the school's Acceptable Use Policy. The Library Media Center, open from 8:00 to 4:00, is designed to be a quiet, pleasant place
for studying, reading, and doing research. The study area, immediately adjacent to the Library, is available for student use during all hours the building is open. Mission The mission
of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. Goals

ONLINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOGS:
- PREP CATALOG. Online electronic card catalog of the school's print and video collection using the Athena Library Automation System. Useful features include searching with Boolean
operators, viewing catalog information in multiple formats, and printing bibliographies. Integrated into the catalog is "Web Feet," a product that catalogs, reviews, updates and directly
links users to the best web sites for schools.
- STATEWIDE INTERLIBRARY LOAN SYSTEM. An online catalog representing holdings in the 170 libraries participating in the service provided by the New Jersey State Library. This service
features Ameritech's RSS software as the search engine. Materials from public and academic libraries are delivered within two or three days.
ELECTRONIC DATABASES:
- ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA ONLINE. EB Online, tailored specifically for academic institutions, offers high-speed research and retrieval from the authoritative reference source plus links to
more than 130,000 Britannica reviewed websites.
- DISCOVERING SCIENCE. An online reference source from the Gale Group that offers more than 13, 500 entries within a broad range of sciences such as biology, ecology, astronomy,
and chemistry.*
- DISCOVERING U.S. HISTORY. An online reference source from the Gale Group that features an interdisciplinary approach to the historical eras, significant events, and notable
persons with numerous search options that allow research of U.S. history on different levels.*
- DISCOVERING WORLD HISTORY. An online reference source from the Gale Group with access to the significant people, events, and social movements in the history of the world.*
- EBSCO MasterFILE Elite. An online periodicals index with abstracts for over 2,760 periodicals and full text for 1,210 magazines and journals. Service provided by the New Jersey State
Library.
- EXPLORING POETRY. An online reference source from the Gale Group that provides explication and full text of 275 frequently studied poems of a classic, contemporary, and
culturally diverse nature.*
- LITERATURE RESOURCE CENTER. An online reference source from the Gale Group that includes literary criticism and biographies of 9000 frequently studied authors, poets, dramatists,
and novelists. Information can be searched through varied pathways such as literary genre, ethnicity, time line, and character.*
- MAGILL'S SURVEY OF SCIENCE CD-ROM. A database consisting of Earth Science, Physical Science, Life Science and Applied Science Series with over 1,500 full-test essays, 100 tables and
graphs, and 631 photos and illustrations.
- MASTERPLOTS COMPLETE CD-ROM. A database that contains literary analysis and interpretation for varied works in such areas as short story, American fiction, drama, and African
American literature with multiple search levels available by author, title, subject, genre, and character.
- NEW YORK TIMES OnDisc. Full text of the editorial content of the newspaper searchable by topic or Boolean logic. The database includes backfiles from 1996 through the current year.
- PROQUEST NEWSTAND. An online "newspaper rack" of 150 key national and international newspaper, such as the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, London Sunday Times.
- SIRS (Social Issues Resources Series) Researcher. An online general reference source that provides thousand of full-text articles exploring social issues, scientific developments, and
global events of historic, economic, or political note. Articles, some with graphics, are selected from over 1500 domestic and international periodicals, government publications, and
journals archived from 1989 to present.
- SIRS Government Reporter. An online reference source that delivers thousands of full-text documents concerning health, science, politics, foreign affairs, business, and industry; current
and historic government documents; landmark and U.S. Supreme Court decisions; information about federal departments and more.
- SIRS Renaissance. An online reference source that provides current, dynamic information on music, literature, film, performing arts, culture, architecture, philosophy, and visual arts
with many full-color graphics.
- World's Best Poetry Online. An online poetry resource with over 50,000 full-text poems and accompanying explanatory materials that include in-depth analysis, biographies, and
illustrations.
