Liturgical Ministries

Students are encouraged to participate in the planning and celebration of school liturgies through a variety of ministries:

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Students may apply in the Spring of their Junior year, to minister as seniors. Candidates experience two training sessions: Theology of the Eucharist and Distribution of the Eucharist. They are commissioned at the opening liturgy of the year in September, a Mass of the Holy Spirit.
For the 2006-2007 school year, there are 12 Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: Kevin Ambert, Jared Briesch, Andrew Goulian, Kevin McMillan, Nick Mikula, Travis Miller, Anthony Pappetti, Niles Pena, Phyllip Pierre, Stephen Prisk, George Ryan, Chris Sosa. photo

Music Ministers lead the congregation in song with voice and musical instruments.

Acolytes process in and out of Mass with the cross and candles.

Banners are designed and created by students for every liturgy. Two thematic banners are made: one for processing, is placed behind the altar; a second is placed on the ambo (lectern).

Gift-bearers present the gifts of bread and wine to the altar for consecration. Included are tags from the most recent tag day, symbolic of the money raised for service organizations.

Mass is celebrated daily in the Chapel at 8:00 a.m. and at 11:15 a.m. during Lent. All are welcome. Mass is celebrated with the entire student body at the beginning and end of the year and at special times during the liturgical season. There are periodic masses for athletic teams, clubs and Theology classes.

Knights of Setonia Masse s are held every first Friday of the month during the morning activity period and are optional. They are part of a longstanding tradition here at the Prep. Light breakfast is provided by the Mother's Club.

Sacrament of Reconciliation is available at any time, upon request. Reconciliation Services are celebrated during Advent ("Throw the First Stone") and Lent ("The Wounds of Christ") in the Chapel, by Theology classes.

Morning Prayer is written by a group of students and is read by the student council officers every morning. There are five themes each week: Sunday's scripture, liturgical season, social justice, school events, intentions. Our foyer prayer table includes an intention book for students and staff to request prayers for those suffering and those who have died. These names are read on Friday mornings.

Moms in Touch is a gathering of school mothers who pray for students, faculty and staff. All are welcome to join them on Wednesday mornings at 8:45 a.m. in the Chapel.
