The titanic battle was joined
on the morning of March 14, as the Quiz-Whiz Kids of the Prep's renowned Academic Team, took on the challenge of the FACULTY. Things were close for a while, with the lead trading hands a half-dozen times in the early going. Nevertheless, a college education does have its rewards, one of which is the ability to answer a challenge. Gradually the more experienced participants pulled away. With memories of the previous night's boistrous rooting at the State Championship Hockey Game fresh in their minds, mild trash talking ensued from both sides and from the SRO crowd which had gathered to view the spectacle.
Special highlights were the mano-a-mano battles that developed between the students' "LT" [who gobbled up Math questions after about 4 syllables from the mouth of moderator Zinsmeister], and
faculty current affairs whiz Ralph Dellanno and English Department Chairperson Harry Dawson [answering just as quickly "Name the Hoosier state author who—BUZZZZZ !!! (... perhaps there's only
one?)] Photos reveal how the youngsters began to wilt under the pressure, their dispirited countenances unable to hide the realization that, after travelling the East Coast, and hauling away
thousands of dollars in scholarship winnings, they had finally met their match. |
