Forensics

The SHP Forensic team competes in the Newark Catholic Forensic League Tournaments.  With approximately 30 schools competing, most competitions consist of eight major events:

The Debate Events include Student Congress and Lincoln Douglas Debate

The speech events  are as follows:
Extemporaneous Speaking – The contestant is given a topic and has 30 minutes to prepare a 7 minute speech.
Original Oratory- Each student performs his own original 7 to 10 minute speech.
Declamation –involves a memorized presentation of someone else's speech, usually a well-known individual.  This event is only for Freshman and Sophomores.
Dramatic Interpretation – The contestant performs a 7-10 minute monologue of either a dramatic or comic nature.
Duo Interpretation- involves two contestants who perform a 7-10 minute scene together.
Oral Interpretation – Using a script, each contestant interprets either poetry or prose.
