The Easter Break provided no respite from back-breaking work for the hearty group of Prep students who accompanied Social Studies teacher Michael Hulsy to Appalachia to work on projects for Habitat for Humanity. The nine Prepsters, and Mr. Hulsy's friend and classmate John Sullivan [Delbarton '93], along with Prep parent and master carpenter and home builder John Lehman, piled into a couple of mini-vans at 5 am the morning after the Easter Liturgy, headed down Route 81, through the Lehigh, Cumberland and Shenandoah Valleys, and into Pendleton County West Virgina [population 8000].

This marked the fourth time Mr. Hulsy has ventured out on the road to work with Habitat for Humanity, and he later expressed his happiness that this crew turned out to be the finest he has been associated with. His classmate Mr. Sullivan's commitment included taking a week off from the frenzy of the financial world as an equities trader with Goldman Sachs.
The team worked on two projects during the week—one indoors, to put the "finishing touches" on a nearly completed home—spackle, trim, casings, door and window frames— the other, to raise and  set the 32 roof trusses of a 44 x 24 roof on a half-completed house. The group found the latter truly rewarding, enjoying every minute of scrambling over the jungle-gym of joists with hammer and nails flying all over the place. The Prep students were Tom Wester, Pete Ford, Kevin Lavelle, Gerry Byrnes, Will Wiet, Kevin Lehmann, Brian Leanza, Matt Janiga and Kevin Smith.

In a fun-oriented but no less energetic Easter Break trek, a group of students accompanied Bio teacher Michael Metelsky and Guidance Counselor William Ward to Costa Rica for a week of jungle and marine adventure. The trip was billed as an opportunity to learn about rain forests, marine ecology and Pre-Columbian history. The group's activities included horseback riding, snorkeling, archeological expeditions, camping, kayaking and rafting. They visited Corcovado National Park, according to National Geographic "one of the most biologically intense places on earth."
