SETON HALL BECOMES A CHANNEL 4 "WEATHERBUG" Through the efforts of Science Department member David Snyder, the Prep has recently received a grant through WNBC, Jeep, and AWS Convergence Technologies, which supplied
the school with an award winning weather data collection system. The "Weather Net System" comprises a data collection suite, a central master control unit, a digital
display and computer software. The data collection suite is mounted to the outside of the building, above the gymnasium. The measurements
collected include temperature, relative humidity, dew point, daily and monthly rain accumulation, wind direction and speed, wind chill, light and atmospheric pressure. A
digital display in Room 231 provides real-time data 24 hours a day. The WeatherNet system is targeted for use in all Freshman Physical Science courses, but is available for
use by several other disciplines. The data is logged into the computer and can be accessed for analysis, projects and graphing. The real-time data constantly streams to
the Internet and will shortly be accessible through "Weatherbug" links available at www.aws.com [ enter SHP's zipcode: 07052] or
www.weatherbug.com
By downloading the Weatherbug software [which will allow you to post SHP's weather readings on your own computer 24/7] and entering SHP's promotion code
[352ZA] during the setup, you will help the school earn money for the purchase of additional weather equipment. The Prep's system is linked to NewsChannel4, and Seton
Hall Prep is set to be one of the station's sources of tri-state weather data. Watch for the Prep's debut sometime soon on the Channel 4's weather reports.
ECOLOGY CLUB INITIATES RECYCLING PROGAM TARGETING TONER CARTRIDGESContinuing the tradition of the Ecology Club's commitment to help clean-up our environment while helping the Seton Hall Prep Community, the Ecology Club
will be collecting used ink-jet and laser printer cartridges found in printers, fax machines, and desktop copiers. All used cartridges can be brought to one of the collection
boxes (currently located outside of the Activities Office and Room 401). All you have to do is bring your cartridges from home and school and drop them in the box.
The collected cartridges will be sent to a recycling service. In turn, they will provide us with "credits" that can be used for free computers and accessories. It is
fairly easy to collect points, and the benefits of this program should be visible by the end of the year. To help SHP further, and provide recycling services
outside of our building, businesses can sign up to sponsor our school. Companies can register at www.fundingfactory.com
and begin their own recycling programs. When asked, just enter the Prep's
organization ID (18757) and the business address.
Companies will be sent their own collection boxes (postage-paid) and any cartridges they return will earn points for the school.
Please feel free to check out the program by visiting
www.fundingfactory.com. Read about the importance of recycling printer cartridges, the technology that we can
acquire, and how easy it is to help out. We strongly encourage you to both join the program and help spread the word. If there are any further questions, e-mail Mr. J. Henrikson at jhenrikson@shp.org. MORE ACTION 2001-2002… |
