SHP Brothers....
I'm not a fan of sending this myself...but I am an Ensign in the US Navy
(commissioned through NROTC) going through flight training to become a
Navy Pilot and I do respect our brothers serving across the seas.
Very Respectfully,

Ensign Brian J. Viola,
a graduate of the class of 2002 is proudly serving his country as an
officer in the United States Navy. Commissioned a little over a year ago,
he spent most of his first year in the service at sea. He
returned this April from a six month deployment; where his ship, the
USS Robert G. Bradley, helped seize 23 tons of illegal drugs in a
multi-national effort to interdict the flow of narcotics into the United States. We are all incredibly
proud of him, as well as all of the SHP alumni serving our country so
bravely. I thank God for him, and for those alumni in uniform, and continue
to send my prayers your way. God bless and protect all of
you.

Marine Lance Corporal Matt Halligan ’03 has returned safely from
his tour in Iraq, including time in Ramadi and Fallujah. On his
second day back he went to an SHP baseball game.

As of last month, two
members of the class of 2006 have completed their initial training and are
now active duty members of the armed forces. Michael Polizzano is in the Marine Corps, and Thomas Collucci is in the Air Force. At this time I have
no information on their appropriate rank or duty location, but feel that their names should be added to troops@shp.org. Thank you for
the support, we all appreciate it.

1.
Thanks for all that you sacrifice, along with your families that feel that
sacrifice as well.

Hi My son, Anthony
"98 (SGT Anthony Monfet) is currently serving in the US Army. (Brother of
Chris '96, Matt '00 and Dan '03)
Anthony
is at the air base in Balad, Iraq -- about 50
miles north of Baghdad. He works in an air force hospital (although he is
in the army). The hospital is considered a "front line"
hospital. Anthony tells us it is very much like what we see on MASH.
He is a medic and works alongside the doctors (head and neck surgeons)
in the OR.
Interesting
and funny story (please pass on to Ralph Dellano).
Somehow a friend of mine met someone who works for Brunswick Bowling
Corp. This person was looking for a soldier who was stationed in Iraq
to send a "portable bowling alley" to. She told him about
Anthony. When he found out that Anthony had been on the bowling team
at SHP, the man was ecstatic. So Anthony received a portable bowling
alley in Iraq! He said it arrived in a couple of giant boxes.
The alley is now set up in the "morale tent," and is being
enjoyed by the soldiers. About a month after he arrived in
Iraq Anthony was recognized by the Brigade Commander, Col.
Swann, for outstanding service and leadership since joining the
hospital in Iraq. COL Swann oversees all medical personnel assigned
to all of Iraq. Anthony was given a "coin" (which
apparently is the Army way to congratulate without giving an official
award/decoration). Please do keep him in your prayers. The
prayers of the SHP community mean a great deal
to us all. Thank you, Susan Monfet

My
prayers are with all of you as you proudly serve this country. Speaking for
the Prep Alumni, we are honored to have you represent us at the Prep and
proudly fight for this country. We are also very blessed amongst your
presence. My prayers are for a quick and safe return home for those who are
fighting in this war. • I thank you for defending my freedom and
the freedom of every fellow American from all walks of life. May God
continue to bless each and every one of you and keep you safe. •
May you find courage in the things you do
Faith
in the country, and God you serve.
• Peace in your hearts, mind,
and soul. and extreme honor and respect for the duty and tasks that lie
ahead of you. • Finally, a personal word of thanks to
Pfc. Eric Oberndorf. First I want to
express how very proud I am of you for going out there and doing what needs
to be done every single day. You are not only my friend but you are also my
hero and a light for the entire world to see. From the days I knew
you at the Prep you always said what was on your mind even if it
wasn't the most popular thing to do. Eric you are out there everyday,
standing up for your beliefs, dreams, goals, and desires. And you bring
courage to all of who may lack this strength. Courage is what you
have which makes all of us proud of you, and courage is what you
believe in.• It is this kind of
courage in times like this that makes me proud not only to live in this
country but to know you. Eric Oberndorf you’re not only my best friend but also my American
Hero. Thank you Eric Oberndorf for being my
defender of freedom I know your family and friends feel the same way about
you. •

Hi
Everyone,
Summer school is going
to begin tomorrow. I'm taking a break to get my mind off what summer school
brings. We had a great year. I'm sure you know that the baseball team won
the state title and that Nick Christiani was made
Player of the Year. Everyone is talking about our success. I hope you are
well. I remember you at Mass each day and you are in my prayers as well.
Hurry home. Make sure you visit us when you come home. I appreciate what
you are doing for us.

prayers. He is scheduled to return to Iraq in September. Said to
say thanks to Mike Zieser for his thoughts and

will visit, but after his 10 plus trips to the Middle East region, time is tight.
God bless you all. - Paul Huether

Seeing my classmate Gene Huether's name on the active duty list inspired me
to let you know that I, too, remain on active duty in the U. S.
Navy. I currently command Submarine Squadron
ONE in Pearl Harbor, HI. By the way, four
'76 graduates went on to the U.S. Naval Academy. Gene Huether, Tony Verducci,
and I are also 1980 graduates of the U.S. Naval Academy with
another SHP '76 classmate, Casey O'Connor, being a member of
the USNA class of 1981 after a year at the Naval Academy Prep School prior to USNA. Not
too bad for a single SHP class-

Hello SHP
family and fellow alumni:
Hello from the
sandbox! Just to let my fellow SHP
alumni know.....This is Philip G. Faustino, Class of 1997....I am currently
overseas in Tikrit, Iraq.....Saddam Hussein's
former hometown.....serving with the New Jersey Army National Guard,
alongside with the 42nd Infantry Division.
I am currently a full-time administrative assistant with my Guard
unit, but was re-trained as a signal equipment operator/maintainer for my
unit's deployment. Basically, I'm a
COMMO guy...in military terms....I have been in the Guard since May 1997,
and recently got promoted to sergeant/E-5 last year. I have been full-time
with my Guard unit since September 2002, and I graduated from Kean University with a B.A. in public
administration. I have been
mobilized since June 2004, and arrived in Iraq on December 10th, 2004. I should be coming back home at the end
of this year, just in time for the holidays. It was tough missing Thanksgiving,
Christmas, and New Year's....but I realized that what I am doing, as well
as 150,000 other troops here, is the ultimate sacrifice as a soldier and
that it is our duty as an American soldier to defend our great land. As soldiers, we sometimes forget to
realize how proud our families, friends, and fellow citizens are of
us...and that's what drives and motivates me to keep driving on as a
soldier in a place that is not the safest in the world. It was very great to see other classmates
that I went to school with, also making the sacrifice to serve their
country, in peace or war. May God
watch over us and bless this great nation of ours and the courageous men
and women who fight and defend it....
Take care, SGT Philip G.

TO ALL OUR TROOPS
Thank
you for being so selfless and risking your life for us. Our family will

A message to all
troops, especially to Prep Alumni-
We are so proud and deeply grateful for your courage in serving
our country.
With green all around us this week, it seems right to send this special
blessing your way so you'll know you're always in our thoughts.
Traditional Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be ever at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rain fall softly on your fields.
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
I've read this Irish Blessing hundreds of times, but the part
"Until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his
hand"
Never meant more than it does now.
I want to add the Soldier's Prayer...
God, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect
us. Bless them and their families for the selfless act’s they
perform for us in our time of need.
Amen.
The Benetti family. (Nicholas '03)
To All of You: Thank You! Your
sacrifices mean a lot to us. Thanks a lot. At the prep I am in the process
of organizing a drive for goods to send to you guys (care packages, goods
from home, etc.) We need an address where we can send these goods so we can
get them to the men and women in Iraq.
Thanks Again - Joe Sapienza Class of '07

To all Prep Alumni who
have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces:
You can well imagine the number of our alumni going back to our beginnings
in 1856 who have served our country as a member of the Armed Forces. Not only is the number significant, but
the calibre of their commitment has been
remarkable. We also remember
especially those who gave their lives for our nation. • We say thank you to these individuals and
their families. • As to all of our
good people presently serving our country, recent and not so recent
graduates, we say thank you for your dedication and patriotism. Thank you for the personal and family
sacrifices you are making. Thank you
for risking your lives, your safety and well-being in order to make America and the world more
peaceful. • I trust that some of what you learned
in the classroom, the chapel, the service project and the athletic and

support you. • Chris Tarney (04) was by before Christmas. He's at West Point preparing, and doing

you to that. We haven't seen you yet Derek, so come back for a visit and

from Derek—
Merry Christmas to all the SHP grads and SHP affiliated
persons. I am thrilled to find that this page is out there. Thank you Mr.
Baggitt and Mr. Morris for your efforts! It's great to have so that we
can reach the people who we care about, but through life's journey have
lost touch with. As Larry once told me "life has a way of getting in
the way of things". It's all too true, unless we show forth the
effort. Anyways it's pretty cold over here, not exactly what I was
expecting it to be, but I can't complain. The men and women who I am
grateful to serve with have an amazing attitude, though the everyday agenda
gets to most once in a while. The words Merry Christmas aren't spoken too
often as it is some men and woman's second or third time being away from
their family and friends during this time of thanks and giving. So please
don't forget the most important things about this holiday. Be thankful for
all you have been given and give to those who don't have the luxuries of
life we take for granted everyday. Enjoy the true spirit of Christmas and
most importantly thank the ones and the one who made this all possible for
us. Do this and it will be my Christmas present! Hey, Dave the surprise is
mutual my man. I hope all is well with you my brother. To the Maydick family, have yourselves a joyous holiday and
John; teach your bro the real game of lax. To Mr. Brian O'Neil, my mentor,
my sen-say, my friend hope you are doing well as
you finish up this year. To Mr. Viola, thanks and I hope I can do
as well too. For my sake at least, but no worries it isn't that bad
and will see home soon. Cornely, man
what have you been up too? Have a great holiday season bro. Still can't
forget those stories you came up with or how. Hope the road you've chosen
makes you happy. I thank all those who have put the time into writing a comment for this page. Every
little encouraging word helps, just ask Hammond. I thank you for your
help and support, in a cause that is hardly seen by most but nonetheless is
very important to the future of some of our fellow man. Happy Holidays and
be of cheer! p.s. my personal email is deroates21@yahoo.com

First,
I'd like to say that I am glad to see that there is a web page available
for people to see some of my fellow graduates of SHP who have joined the
military, and show them support at such a critical time. When I logged on
and saw the names of two people I was quite fond of while in school, who had joined the military, I was surprised. Pfc. Oates
was the first name I recognized, and was shocked once I had seen that he is
on active duty in Iraq. I never would have
imagined Derek to join the military when I knew him in school, but then
again, no one expected me to join the military either. The next name that I
recognized was 2LT Lambert. He was my peer leader freshman year, and though
I was only around him for a short period of time, considered him to be a
friend to me (besides, he was the one of the few seniors who didn’t pick on
me for being the "fat freshman", instead he encouraged me to work
out at the KAC after school everyday, so I worked out with him and changed
for the better. So, to Chris, wherever you are, Thank you!). I also am a
member of the Armed Services. My name is PV2 David B. Hammond (Class of 02') and I
am in the 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, GA. Right now I am waiting
to go to Iraq, and praying for all
those already over there. I am attached to the 26th Forward Support Batallion (FSB) HHC. We are deploying in January and we
will be stationed in Baghdad from anywhere between
12-18 months (as long as the mission takes). As for keeping in touch with
everyone, Mr. Morris has my email address so for anyone who would like to
keep in touch while I'm over there, I'd appreciate it. For the families of
the soldiers already overseas, and those waiting to deploy, keep supporting
your loved ones and never let them forget how much they are truly
appreciated. One last thing...To the Oates family, though I never had the
opportunity to meet you, just knowing that your son is now where I will
soon be, makes me feel as if I should to keep in touch with you so I can
find out how Derek is doing, so if at all possible, please keep me updated
and let Derek know that I hope to see him over there in a short while.
Thank you and God Bless.
To Derek
and the rest of the Alumni in uniform,
Thank
you guys so very much. I admire and appreciate everything you are doing. I
wish you guys the best of luck and all of you will be in my prayers and
thoughts. Everyone come home safe. Derek, I know you will make us proud and
I hope to see you when you get back. Have a happy and safe holiday. Just
for everyone’s knowledge, you can go to http://www.shp.org/Home/In_Touch/Troops/www.anysoldier.com
to send a solider who doesn't get a lot of mail
from family or friends mail or a package. Especially around the holiday it
would be nice to receive something and would boost the soldiers’ moral. God
bless.

To All,
May you know your country appreciates the sacrifices that you are
making on our behalf. No one truly knows the cost of freedom except those
who serve and their families. I know it is especially difficult during the
holiday season but Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday and the best in the New
Year.
God Bless you all and we pray for a safe and speedy return.

To Derek and David,
Guys,
I'm proud to have been at school with you. While I never really was close
to either one of you, you guys are still a part of four of the greatest
years of my life, and I offer my prayers for you guys everyday. Spending a
mere total of seven weeks on active duty over the past two summers, I've
gotten a chance to meet the heart of the US Navy, the people who really
make the military work: the enlisted sailor (as well as the soldier,
Marine, airman, and Coast Guardsman). You guys are the real workers out
there, and that's something I'll never forget and will always take with me.
Derek, I hope you are doing your best out there. David, I have no clue
where you are, but I hope the same for you. Merry Christmas and God bless

During this holiday season it is tough to
be away from family and friends in a strange land where we are not very
welcome. However, regardless of that, you are doing an immense service to all of us
back home keeping us safe and protecting our freedoms that some take for
granted. You are the ones who are the true heroes in life, not Spiderman,
Batman or Superman, but you the military men. Keep up the great work, be
safe, and above all, remember you are appreciated for everything you are
doing. God bless you all and God bless America.

To all our troops, and especially
Seton Hall Prep graduates,
our prayers are with you and your family. Thank you for your
courageous service to our country, and for the evolving countries of Afghanistan and Iraq. When you get
discouraged about the slowness of progress toward a
democracy, remember the starts and stops of our own country when
it began that journey.
I pray for your safe return, and God bless you,

To my

Pfc Derek Oates,
As Steve Garvey once said, "The difference between the old ballplayer
and the new ballplayer is the jersey. The old ballplayer cared about the
name on the front. The new ballplayer cares about the name on the
back."
Through your commitment to your
country, you have proven yourself to be like the old ballplayer. Thanks for
giving us the best gift that anyone could give to us this holiday season:
the gift of freedom. May God bless you and your family.
Best holiday wishes,

Thanks for
everyone's support. Derek has been in Iraq for about two weeks. We
haven't heard form him yet but got this note from one of the family members
of a fellow soldier.
“ Greetings from Baghdad, Iraq! The 733 Paratroopers
of Task Force Blue Falcon have all now closed on our three Forwarding
Operating Bases (FOBs), which will be our homes
for the next four months or so. This update will provide you with as much
information as we can possibly provide on how we are living, the mission we
are executing, and what we are doing day-to-day….” [ long
message followed, describing food, living conditions, travel and communication routines, etc.
Soldiers have access to “internet cafes” where they can do e-mail, etc on a
regular basis.]
Bart Oates
To all,
May God keep you safe during this holiday season and always. May He return
you safely to your families and grant you a safe Christmas and a joyous New
Year. Thank you for all you do.
